Produced until the 1950s, the Pedü accompanied the lives of the inhabitants of this Alpine valley. The Pedü were skillfully sewn by the women of Valmalenco. From an early age, little girls used to watch the shoe making process and, as they grew up, they acquired manual skills under the supervision of the oldest and most experienced women in the town.

The Malenchi– the inhabitants of Valmalenco – used to wear the Pedü in two different versions every day. The ones which were used daily were manufactured with more resistant fabrics and usually appeared darker in colour, while those worn on religious feasts and ceremonies were characterized by fabrics of more vivid shades, adorned with ribbons and bows.
